Custom Range
What Custom Thread Gauges We Make as a Custom Gauge Supplier
Our custom work is limited to thread gauges: GO/NO-GO plug and ring gauges built to a thread specification that a standard catalogue size does not cover. If your part carries a non-standard callout, we machine and grind the gauge to your drawing and check it against the same limits your part must meet. As a custom gauges manufacturer, we quote each item individually rather than forcing you into the nearest stock size.
| Custom type | Typical use | What we need from you |
|---|---|---|
| Special pitch or diameter | Non-standard size or pitch combination on a metric, unified or trapezoidal thread | Major diameter, pitch, tolerance class or pitch-diameter limits |
| Left-hand threads | Counter-rotating shafts, turnbuckles, safety-critical fasteners | Thread callout with LH designation |
| Multi-start threads | Fast-travel lead screws, closures, quick-connect fittings | Number of starts, pitch and lead, profile |
| Special profiles from drawing | Modified flank angles, truncated or proprietary forms | Dimensioned profile drawing with tolerances |
| Depth-marked plug gauges | Blind tapped holes where full thread depth must be confirmed | Minimum full-thread depth and hole depth |
| Private-label marking | Distributors and OEMs supplying gauges under their own name | Logo or text, marking position, packaging needs |
Standard thread families such as metric, UNC/UNF/UNEF, NPT/NPTF, BSP and Acme/trapezoidal can all be combined with these options, for example a left-hand trapezoidal plug gauge or a depth-marked metric fine-pitch plug. See also our note on left-hand thread gauges.
RFQ Checklist
Custom RFQ Checklist for Custom Quality Control Gauges
Most delays on custom quality control gauges come from missing information, not from machining. Sending the items below with your first message lets us quote within 24 hours and avoids a second round of questions.
- Thread designation – full callout including size, pitch or TPI, class and hand (for example M20×1.5-6H LH).
- Gauge type and quantity – GO plug, NO-GO plug, GO ring, NO-GO ring, or complete sets, with quantity per item.
- Part drawing or gauge drawing – PDF or DWG/STEP, with the thread section and any special profile dimensioned.
- Governing standard – ISO 1502, ASME B1.2 or your company standard, so acceptance limits are unambiguous.
- Coating condition – whether the part is gauged before or after plating, since this can change the class or limits.
- Depth or engagement requirement – for blind holes or short engagement lengths.
- Documentation – whether you need an ISO/IEC 17025 calibration certificate with the delivery.
- Marking and packaging – standard marking, your part number, or private-label marking.
A short list of part numbers and annual quantities also helps us plan repeat production and hold approved data sheets ready for reorders. or a sample part and no drawing, tell us; we will If you only have a worn gauge or a sample part and no drawing, tell us; we will explain what can be confirmed from the sample and what still needs your input.
Drawing Review
Drawing Review and Approval Steps
Every custom order goes through a written review before any steel is cut. The goal is simple: both sides agree on the exact gauge limits in writing, so the gauge you receive accepts good parts and rejects bad ones by your definition, not ours.
- Drawing check – our engineers read the thread callout, profile and tolerances and list anything unclear or conflicting.
- Limit calculation – we calculate GO and NO-GO gauge dimensions from the governing standard or your stated limits.
- Gauge drawing or data sheet – we send the proposed gauge dimensions, marking text and any assumptions for your review.
- Your approval – you confirm or correct the data sheet; production starts only after written approval.
- Manufacture and inspection – the gauge is made and measured against the approved dimensions, with a calibration certificate available on request.
Typical review time is one to two working days. If the drawing leaves a value open, such as the tolerance class on a special pitch, we propose a value based on the nearest standard and mark it clearly as an assumption, so nothing is decided silently on your behalf. Approved data sheets are kept on file and reused for repeat orders.

Sample Approval
Sample Approval Before Volume Orders
For new thread forms, first-time suppliers or orders that will be repeated across several plants, we recommend approving one sample gauge or one set before releasing the full quantity. Because our MOQ is one piece, a sample costs the same per unit as production and follows the same custom lead time.
- Check the sample on known-good and known-bad parts from your line, not only on the certificate values.
- Compare marking, handle design and packaging with what your inspectors and customers expect.
- Confirm the certificate format meets your incoming inspection or customer documentation requirements.
- Record any change requests in writing so the volume order is built to the corrected data sheet.
If the sample needs a correction, we revise the data sheet, confirm the change with you and make a second sample only where the correction affects gauge dimensions. Marking or packaging changes are simply applied to the volume order.
Costs and timing are explained in custom thread gauge sampling: process, cost and timeline, and a practical list of what to verify is in our sample approval checklist.
Lead Time & MOQ
Lead Time, MOQ and Private Label Options
Lead times below are counted from written drawing approval for custom gauges and from order confirmation for stock sizes. Shipping time is added separately.
| Order type | Lead time | MOQ | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard stock sizes | Ships within 72 hours | 1 piece | Common metric, unified and pipe sizes |
| Custom thread gauges | 10–15 working days | 1 piece | After drawing and data sheet approval |
| Sample gauge for approval | 10–15 working days | 1 piece or 1 set | Same process as production |
| Repeat custom order | 10–15 working days | 1 piece | Built to the previously approved data sheet |
| Private-label gauges | Custom lead time applies | 1 piece | Marking artwork confirmed before production |
Distributors and tool brands can order gauges marked with their own name, part numbers and packaging. Details are on our OEM private-label thread gauges page. When you are ready, send your drawing through the quote request form or WhatsApp and we will reply within 24 hours.

FAQ
Custom Gauge Manufacturing Questions
Can you make a custom gauge if our thread callout is not in any standard?
Yes. If the drawing fully defines the profile, pitch, diameters and tolerances, we can calculate gauge limits from your values instead of a published standard. We send a data sheet showing the proposed GO and NO-GO dimensions, and production starts only after you approve those numbers in writing.
Do custom gauges cost much more than standard sizes?
Custom gauges usually cost more per piece because each one needs drawing review, limit calculation and a dedicated setup. The difference is smaller for simple special pitches and larger for multi-start or special profiles. Because MOQ is one piece, you pay only for the quantity you actually need, including single sample gauges.
Can you match a gauge we currently buy from another supplier?
Usually, yes. Send the thread callout, the governing standard and, if possible, the existing gauge drawing or certificate. We compare the limits and confirm whether our gauge will be interchangeable. If the old gauge was built to undocumented company limits, we will ask you to confirm them first.
Who owns the drawing and marking once a custom gauge is approved?
Your drawings, part numbers and private-label artwork remain yours and are used only for your orders. We keep the approved data sheet on file so repeat orders are built to identical dimensions without a new review, unless you tell us the part specification has changed.
Can you make custom gauges from drawings?
Yes. We can review PDF, DXF, STEP, sketches, existing samples and technical specifications for custom gauge manufacturing.
Can you sign an NDA?
Yes. NDA can be signed before you share proprietary drawings, samples or thread profiles.
Can you make one prototype?
Yes. MOQ can start from 1 piece for prototype, engineering validation or first article inspection projects.
Can you add our brand?
Yes. Logo engraving, buyer part numbers, custom labels, packaging and certificates are available.
Do you provide certificates?
Inspection reports, calibration certificates and material certificates can be supplied when required.
Can you reverse engineer from a sample?
Yes. You can send a threaded part, existing gauge or inspection sample for review and custom manufacturing.
